Resorption is Normal in Children

Resorption is actually quite normal in children. In children, resorption is what we want to happen, because that is the only way that children can lose their baby teeth and usher in their adult teeth. Children's teeth have roots attached to them. As a child grows, and their adult teeth begin to come in, their baby teeth roots are reabsorbed by their bodies. This makes children's teeth loose and helps them to fall out naturally. If resorption doesn't happen, then a child's permanent teeth can't come in properly.

Tooth Loss in Adults Brings About Problems

If you're lucky, that's all of the resorption process that happens in your mouth. However, some adults will have resorption occur as well. Adult bodies can decide that a tooth needs to be reabsorbed. Resorption in adults means that eventually, the tooth will fall out, as the tooth and the tooth roots are absorbed back into the body for use elsewhere. There are two kinds of resorption possible. One kind of resorption is called internal resorption. When this happens, your body begins to absorb a tooth from the inside out. Internal resorption is difficult to spot. Usually, adults suffer from external resorption. When this happens, you may notice that your tooth enamel has pink spots on it. These pink spots you see on your teeth will turn into holes that look like cavities. If we spot these changes early, we might be able to save your tooth.

All-on-4 Can Help

Fortunately, there are multiple methods to replace missing teeth. The All-on-4® Treatment Concept is a method of replacing all of the patient's natural teeth, holding the replacement teeth in place with four implants that are placed in the patient's mouth. Our team at [[[CLIENTX:PracticeName]]] is experienced and equipped to perform All-on-4 treatments for our patients.

The All-on-4 Process

A complete All-on-4 implant requires three appointments. During the first appointment, our team will perform x-rays and a CT scan to determine the best treatment plan for the patient. When our professional review indicates that extraction and implants are the best solution for the patient, we will inform the patient and obtain consent to continue. Our team will then apply anesthesia, remove any remaining natural teeth, and place both the implants and a temporary prosthetic. The second appointment is the next day, where our team verifies that the temporary prosthetic fits properly. The third appointment typically occurs three to five months later, where our team replaces the temporary prosthetic with a permanent prosthetic, then places the replacement teeth.

Benefits of All-on-4 Treatment

All-on-4 implants are not dependent on jawbone augmentation to succeed. The presence of All-on-4 implants restores the functionality and appearance of the face and mouth. All-on-4 implants have few dietary restrictions as opposed to treatments such as dentures.

Is The All-On-4 Treatment the Best Option For You?

If for some reason, the All-On-4 does not seem like it would be the best type of treatment for your tooth loss, we could also look into other options such as multiple tooth implants, or a bridge supported by dental implants.
