What Is A Root Canal?

Posted on 3/7/2022 by Dynamic Dental
What Is A Root Canal?Assume you are in the dentist's chair, and he or she just told you that you need to have a root canal. If you are unfamiliar with this procedure, you may be wondering what it means, how it works, and why it might be necessary. This blog post aims to answer these questions and more by exploring the basics of root canals and detailing what happens during the procedure. You will also learn why they are necessary in some cases and what happens after you receive one.

Reason behind Root Canal Treatment

If a tooth is damaged by disease or decay, it can put you at risk of losing that tooth. However, if you are proactive and get treatment early on, your dentist may be able to perform root canal therapy, saving your tooth from being extracted. The best way to do that is with root canal treatment, which involves removing all of the pulp, that is, nerves and blood vessels from inside your tooth. By getting rid of all of those tiny nerves, there will no longer be any pain, and so you can keep your tooth.

Procedure of Root Canal Treatment

The dentist usually administers an anesthetic to kill pain and then numbs specific areas in and around your tooth before beginning treatment. Next, they will remove any infected or damaged tissue inside your tooth using special instruments. Finally, they will place fillings, which can be made from gold or plastic, into your tooth to protect it from bacteria.

Post-Root Canal Care

After your root canal, it is essential to follow up with your dentist regularly. He or she will instruct you to brush and floss with special toothbrushes designed for post-root canal care.

You are welcome to our dental clinic for a root canal treatment. Our dentists will ensure the whole procedure feels comfortable and less painful.
