What Is Dental Plaque and How Can I Get Rid Of It?

Posted on 11/22/2021 by Dynamic Dental
What Is Dental Plaque and How Can I Get Rid Of It?Dental plaque is a sticky substance that can be found on the teeth. It's made up of bacteria, bits of food, and saliva. When you have too much dental plaque, it can lead to tooth decay or gum disease. If you want to know how to get rid of dental plaque in your mouth, there are many things you can do, including brushing properly, flossing, using an antibacterial mouthwash, and more!  Read the blog post for more information about what dental plaque is and how you can get rid of it today!

What is dental plaque?

Dental plaque is a thin, sticky film of bacteria that forms on your teeth. It can be removed by brushing and flossing regularly; however, if it's left to build up, dental plaque becomes tartar (also known as calculus), which you cannot easily brush away. Tartar creates an environment for more bacteria to grow underneath the gums around each tooth. If you don't get rid of both types of plaque in its early stages, not only will your breath smell terrible, but also harmful oral diseases may develop over time—which could lead to loss of teeth or even death!

How do I get rid of it?

There are many ways you can get rid of dental plaque. Brushing your teeth at least twice per day and flossing once daily is ideal for removing both types of plaque, but there are other effective methods as well. Using an antibacterial mouthwash (or chlorhexidine) will kill off the harmful bacteria that form on your teeth before it has a chance to become tartar; however, this method only works if used frequently—ideally, after every time you eat or drink something acidic like soda pop or orange juice! An antimicrobial oral irrigator also helps remove any leftover food particles left behind between your teeth during brushing by shooting water into tight spaces where toothbrush bristles cannot reach. Rinsing with hydrogen peroxide or using a tongue scraper will help eradicate the bacteria that forms on your tongue, which can make up to 80% of all plaque—but be careful not to swallow it!
