We all have bad habits. Many people may unknowingly be practicing bad habits while trying to keep their teeth clean. We would like to expose some of these common and uncommon habits in order to help you to improve your oral health.
Bad Habits Associated With Your Toothbrush
Several bad brushing habits revolve around your toothbrush. You may have sensitive teeth and are using a hard bristled toothbrush. This may cause damage to your teeth and gums. We suggest using a soft bristled toothbrush as they are gentle on your teeth and cause less damage.
Regardless of what type of toothbrush you use, please keep in mind how long you use your toothbrush. The American Dental Association recommends that you change your toothbrush after three months of use. If you change your toothbrush at the beginning of each new season, you will be well on your way to minimizing bad bacteria that can accumulate on your toothbrush.
Lastly, the best way to store your toothbrush is upright in a cup or holder. This allows water to drip down the brush, and the bristles to fully air dry. Mold and bacteria multiply in wet areas, so it is crucial that your toothbrush dries out between uses.
Bad Habits Uncovered
Germs and food can get trapped in many places in your mouth. It is important to brush your tongue and gums in addition to brushing your teeth. Using a 45 degree angle to the gums, gently brush your teeth and gums in a circular motion. Brush all surfaces of your teeth. Brush for at least two minutes. Brush at least twice a day.
