Ways We Locate Cavities

Posted on 4/10/2020 by Dynamic Dental
Ways We Locate Cavities Cavities are the bane of our existence. We have more problems with cavities than with any other issue in our practice. It is nearly impossible to go through life without a cavity. In fact, 90% of adults have at least one cavity during their lifetime. Twenty-five percent of adults are walking around currently with an untreated cavity. That's not good, because cavities that are allowed to grow can lead to infected teeth, abscessed teeth, and infected gums. The infection can even spread to other teeth as well. It is really important that we find and treat cavities before they become serious. But how do we find them? Here is some information on finding cavities.

How Are Cavities Found?

There are several different ways that we find cavities. First, we often find cavities when we do a dental exam. Often, cavities grow slowly, so if you come in and see us twice a year, we may be able to quickly locate a cavity before it becomes a huge problem. We may be able to find your small cavity using just our dental instruments. We may also spot a cavity when we take your dental x-rays. We usually take x-rays once a year. In the past, the x-rays made it difficult to spot a small cavity. But now, with digital x-rays, we are able to take very clear pictures of the inside of your mouth. Also, we can take x-rays inside your mouth, and outside your mouth using a special camera. Our x-ray technology makes it easy to spot any cavities you have. There is another tool we use to find cavities. It's called an intraoral camera. It is a tiny camera we use to get to hard to reach places in your mouth. These cameras make it much easier to spot a cavity, and get it fixed quickly. If you are worried that you have a cavity, why not give us a call today, and let us get it fixed for you?
