Kissing Someone with Bad Oral Health

Posted on 2/2/2024 by Weo Admin
Couple waiting to kiss until their appointment at Dynamic Dental Care in Spokane, WAIt feels strange to wonder about the relationship between kissing and oral health. Well, kissing is not all about emotions because there are many changes and processes when it happens. Unfortunately, some of these changes and processes are good, and others are bad.

What Happens During a Kiss?

Kissing causes the transfer of oral liquids between two individuals involved in the act. Such transfers are both good and bad. It is good because the lip sensitivity associated with kissing will cause the brain to generate a chemical reaction that gives you a natural high. However, it is bad because the human mouth has more than 700 species of bacteria. The bacteria live on the face, teeth, and tongue, and others reside in your saliva. When you kiss another person, their bacteria will be transferred from your mouth to theirs, and vice versa.

Kissing Someone With Bad Oral Health

Kissing someone with bad oral health is as bad as not brushing or flossing your teeth for days. They will have bad breath, and possibly, they will have cavities.

Catching Cavities

Catching cavities after kissing sounds far-fetched, but it is a reality. Your dentist will tell you that kissing someone with dental cavities will result in you catching the oral health condition. The problem with kissing a person with bad oral health is not their cavities but the bacteria that caused that cavity in the first place. You will have cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth, negating any other benefits you might have gained from the kiss.

Bad Bacteria

There are indeed millions of bacteria in the human mouth at any one time. However, not all these bacteria are harmful. Kissing someone with bad oral health will have their bad bacteria transferred into your mouth. If you brush and floss daily, you may not have bad bacteria or at least millions of bad bacteria.

Visit our clinic and learn about how to prevent bad bacteria from affecting your oral health. Our dentist can advise on proper oral health care and practices.
